> *No guide but silence, cold and deep,*\
> *No promise that the Void will keep.*\
> *We chart the course where none have been,*\
> *And pray our light is seen.*

Centuries ago, driven by great technological leaps, humanity began its expansion into the stars. The best and brightest minds, the most courageous and resolute individuals, were chosen for this grand endeavor – the elite of the elite. These astronauts, facing immense hardship, pushed forward into the boundless space, discovering new habitable worlds, intelligent life, and inexplicable anomalies. They learned to sense magnetic fields, calculate the most complex subspace jumps, and harness the power of quasars and black holes. They were called the Pilgrims.

Their primary mission was to lead humanity to new frontiers. Investing all its resources into this conquest, humanity reaped great rewards. Following the paths of the Pilgrims, civilization spread at a breathtaking pace. Yet, controlling such vast territories became increasingly difficult. Over hundreds of years, colonies rose and fell, alliances formed and shattered, leading to endless conflicts over worlds and resources.

To maintain order, the United Stellar Confederation (USC) was formed – a union encompassing humanity's numerous independent colonies and allied alien civilizations.

But as humanity fought over the worlds the Pilgrims had unveiled, the inevitable happened. Over a millennium, the Pilgrims had ventured too far, technologically and mentally transcending their ancestors. Quietly, without aggression, they turned away, severing all contact. No new beacons with coordinates for habitable planets appeared. No communication. Only silence and the endless void remained.

Humanity mourned its lost children, and legends grew. Some said the Pilgrims had ascended to godhood, deeming humanity unworthy. Others claimed they had simply perished. Centuries later, many believed them to be nothing but a myth.

The settled galaxy moved on, striving for order and balance, its multicultural civilization flourishing, enjoying life and progress.

Then, after centuries of silence, the Pilgrim Beacons suddenly reactivated. Ancient, forgotten, and previously undiscovered markers lit up across the galaxy, transmitting messages that made little sense at first. Alarming and strange events began to occur everywhere. The USC initiated an emergency mobilization to identify and assess the emerging threat.

Your Story

You were one of the best. A seasoned smuggler, a fearless pilot, a man who knew every uncharted lane and hidden shortcut in the outer systems. But times change – and you ended up in a high-security prison, locked away and forgotten.

Until the beacons lit up.

Now, the USC needs answers, but not open panic. They need someone who can operate in the shadows, beyond official channels. Someone disposable, yet capable.

So they came to you.

Released under covert orders, you are sent back into the stars under a civilian cover – just another trader, just another miner. Your real mission is clear: track down the lost beacons, decipher their cryptic warnings, and uncover the truth behind the Pilgrims' disappearance and their sudden, ominous return. You must deliver that truth to the USC… before it's too late.
